Tobacco—Illegal supply
539. Mr Adam Hort to
the Minister for Police:
I have a
supplementary question. Has the minister been advised that until tougher laws
are introduced, we will see organised crime shift their illegal activities here
to Western Australia?

AnswerView source ↗

I have already
explained the tough action that Western Australian police are taking. The
commissioner has under his control the largest police force in this state's
history. It is the best resourced police force in our history with the best
equipment, including covert surveillance equipment.
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members!
Mr Adam Hort interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Kalamunda, I am calling you
for the first time.
Mr Reece Whitby: Thank you, Mr Speaker.
I have already
explained that this police force has already taken tough action against an
offender who has been charged, and that action will continue in cooperation
with federal authorities. I also explained that our bikie laws, which are already
the toughest in the country, are aiding police in their efforts in this area. We
will deliver the best and toughest anti-tobacco laws in the country.
