ROSSMOYNE AND HAMILTON SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS —
SWIMMING POOLS
308. Hon KATE DOUST to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the concrete cracks and
other issues that have rendered the swimming pools at Rossmoyne Senior High
School and Hamilton Senior High School unusable.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that funding requests to rectify these issues were approved
only for Rossmoyne Senior High School and not for Hamilton Senior High School;
and, if so, for what reason was the Hamilton Senior High School funding request
denied?
(2) Does the
minister guarantee the retention of a swimming pool at Hamilton Senior High
School; and, if so, when will works commence to bring the swimming pool back
into use?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Funding
has been confirmed for Rossmoyne Senior High School. A decision on the repairs
at Hamilton Senior High School has not yet been made, pending an assessment of
the maintenance priority.
(2) Swimming
pools are expensive to maintain. A review of the total cost of repairing and
maintaining swimming pools at public schools, excluding those at education
support facilities, is underway. Therefore, a guarantee for the retention of
any swimming pool cannot be given.
