KWINANA OIL REFINERY —
CLOSURE
1262. Hon PETER COLLIER to
the Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I refer to BP's decision to
close its Kwinana refinery and convert the site into a fuel import terminal.
(1) Did the government provide or offer any
incentives, rebates or any commercial arrangements to encourage the BP
Kwinana oil refinery to stay?
(2) If yes to (1), what options
were provided?
(3) From where will the forgone
fuel supplies be derived?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and
Innovation advises the following.
(1) BP announced
that it wanted to cease oil refining because the oil refinery was suffering
considerable losses. The company advised that there was no level of support
from the state or federal government that could change its decision.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) Imported
refined products will be from various sources, predominantly across the
South-East Asian and North Asian regions as appropriate, but may also be
imported from Europe, the United States of America or the Middle East.
