I am advised:
18 hospitals (includes public and private hospitals and private hospitals that also provide public services) performed medical abortions in the 2018 calendar year and 2019 to date. Notifications of abortions were also received from General Practitioners for this period.
Medical abortions are those defined by the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) as legal and therapeutic terminations of pregnancy. Medical abortions by definition do not include spontaneous abortions, known as miscarriages.
