I refer to the use of restraint against disabled children in Western Australian schools, and I ask: (a) when was the use of restraint against disabled children in schools last reviewed; (b) in reference to (a), what were the details of that review; (c) are there any plans to review the use of restraint against disabled children in schools in the future; (d) if yes to (c), what are the details of any planned review(s); and (e) what intervention, guidance or support is currently provided to schools and educators to address the use of restraints against children?

(a) July 2023.
(b) The use of restraint was reviewed as part of the Student Behaviour in Public Schools policy and procedures review. The review focussed on:
·         providing a holistic approach to behaviour
·         incorporating the explicit teaching of positive behaviours
·         preventing and responding to bullying and violence
·         ensuring whole community buy-in.
(c) Yes.
(d) The review will be undertaken in response to recommendations 6.35 and 6.36 of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.
(e) The Student Behaviour Public Schools policy, procedures and requirements provide guidance and intervention strategies for schools to meet legislative requirements. Schools access support through training in de-escalation and positive handling intervention, guidance and support, including the use of restraint, school psychologist services and specialist schools.
