It is on the
website. Again, they talk about a 140-metre long jetty and ask why we would put
a 140-metre long jetty there? It is so we do not have to dredge, which is a
good environmental outcome.
We have gone through
all the specifics. I did not sit here and just make a political decision. I
took it to the experts. They did an independent analysis and they ranked the
options. At the last election we recommended, consistent with the master plan
that was out there at the time, the original proposal for north Matilda Bay. The
feedback from the rowing club was that north Matilda Bay would be in close
proximity to the rowing shed. We took that on board and then we gave it to the
independent experts and said, "Can you go back because these legitimate
issues were raised about its proximity to the rowing club? Let's go back and do
a proper analysis across all the options." They did that. As I said, they looked
through all these different aspects—environmental impact, transport
connectivity, waterway safety and land and water-use compatibility. They went
through and did the proper assessment. Then they came back with a
recommendation. Does the member want me to ignore that independent advice and
make a political decision? I am not doing that. I am making the decision that
is the best for future generations. It is not just about us here and now; it is
about making sure that we deliver for the future generations, just like we have
done with Metronet and across the whole of the state's infrastructure. That is our
responsibility.
