DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING - COMPLAINTS MANAGEMENT UNIT
I ask this question of behalf of Hon Peter Collier. I refer the minister to the report in yesterday’s The West Australian regarding proposed changes to the Department of Education and Training’s complaints management unit. (1) Have changes been made to the complaints management unit recently, or are changes proposed in the immediate future? (2) If yes to (1), will the minister outline the proposed changes to - (a) the structure of the unit, and (b) the staffing of the unit; and, if not, why not? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Yes; changes are proposed. (2) (a) In line with the Corruption and Crime Commission recommendations, a review will be undertaken of all the current roles and positions within the unit and restructuring will occur to include some staff with more specific expertise, such as investigative skills and the skills to handle allegations of staff misconduct. (b) With the establishment of the professional standards directorate, the number of staff will be increased from 7.5 to 15 full-time equivalents to bolster the capacity of the department’s centralised complaints management process.
