MEDICAL CANNABIS —
PHARMACEUTICAL BENEFITS SCHEME
1029. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer the minister to a recent
case report published in the United Kingdom examining the treatment of Mr
Michael Roberts, believed to be the first British patient to have been
reimbursed by the National Health Service for the cost of medicinal cannabis
flower used to manage his chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
(1) Will the
minister take Mr Roberts' case to heart and raise it at the next health
ministers meeting as a pertinent example of why we need to have medicinal
cannabis products listed on the pharmaceutical benefits scheme?
(2) If no to (2),
can the parliamentary secretary explain to the house why Australia in general,
and Western Australia in particular, continues to lag woefully behind other
western countries in this regard?
