What was the formal outcome of the primary police investigation into this matter? Mr PRINCE

According to the papers from the police - I do not have them in front of me today - as far as I can recall, the statement I had was that the primary investigation was complete. Mr Ripper: With what resolution? Mr PRINCE: There was no resolution. The matter remains open and will remain open unless and until there is some resolution of it. Dr Gallop: Why did you tell us it was closed when you got up in this Parliament on the first day this matter was raised? Mr PRINCE: The investigation had stopped. It was completed, finished and there was no resolution of it. That is that. I have asked the commissioner to ensure that there is a thorough and exhaustive investigation. He assured me yesterday - Dr Gallop: That is not what you told us when you first got up in this Parliament on the issue. That is not what the member for Cottesloe told us. Mr PRINCE: He assured me yesterday that that would be the case. That is what is happening right now. As soon as the commissioner comes back and says, “We have now done that”, I will tell those opposite.
