(b) what was the total value of the mobile phones that were lost or stolen;
(c) was the loss or theft of any of these mobile phones reported to the police;
(d) if yes to (c), when were these reports made;
(e) of those reported, what has been the outcome;
(f) if any mobile phones that were lost or stolen were not reported to the police, why not;
(g) what steps, if any, have been put into place with a view to eliminating, or at least reducing, these losses; and
(h) when were these steps put into place?

Department of the Premier and Cabinet advises:
(a) 2 mobile phones were reported lost;
(b) The value of the mobile phones was negligible because of their age;
(c) No
(d-e) Not applicable
(f) The loss of the two mobiles was not reported as there was no evidence of criminal activity associated with their loss;
(g-h) The Premier sent a memorandum to all Ministers on 23 October 2006 directing that they ensure their Departments have appropriate measures to minimise the loss or theft of public property. The memorandum attached guidelines prepared by the Office of Crime Prevention outlining available property marking technology.
The 2007 Code of Conduct of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet reminds staff of their responsibility to ensure that appropriate care of government assets is taken at all times.
