PERTH
STADIUM — PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
53. Mr F.M. LOGAN to the Minister for
Transport:
I draw to the minister's
attention the six questions that I have put to him since June 2015 about his
government's commitment to the local content of steel and fabrication
for the Swan River stadium footbridge—questions which he has
consistently ducked.
(1) Will the
minister now confirm that the supply and fabrication of the steel for the
stadium bridge will be totally sourced overseas?
(2) Is the
minister aware that there are now 84 000 Western Australians who are out of
work and many, many of them are from the engineering and steel industries?

(1)–(2) I
am very proud of this government's track record of investment in
infrastructure—$7.4 billion. We have created thousands and thousands of
jobs for Western Australians. Any project that we undertake meets the standards
regarding local content. A lot of people were talking about the Gateway WA
project, which is the largest Main Roads project that we have ever undertaken.
My point is that it is a large contract but the flow-down effect to small
business in Western Australia is large. We are about to commence the
construction of the pedestrian footbridge across the Swan River to the Perth
Stadium. It is going to be an iconic pedestrian bridge and an iconic piece of
infrastructure for Western Australia. We will meet our local content obligations.
