REMOTE
ABORIGINAL COMMUNITIES
944. Hon DARREN WEST to the
Leader of the House representing the Premier:
Given that the Constitution Amendment (Recognition of
Aboriginal People) Bill 2015 has now passed through both houses of the Western
Australian Parliament, will the Premier categorically rule out the removal of
services from the 150 remote Aboriginal communities targeted for closure and
dispel any uncertainty about the future held by members of those communities?

AnswerView source ↗

The state government is pleased with the bipartisanship shown
in passing the Constitution Amendment (Recognition of Aboriginal People) Bill
2015. The passage of this legislation is a significant event for Parliament,
and the state government congratulates the member for Kimberley for her role in
progressing this historic bill.
The reforms are long term and changes will be gradual and
incremental. Children must have access to education and be safe from harm; this
is not negotiable.
