NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME — MY
WAY TRIAL
693. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Disability Services:
I refer to the $135 million that the
government has proposed to contribute to a national disability insurance scheme
trial in Western Australia, if it is in the same areas as the My Way trial. If
the NDIS trial does not go ahead in WA, will the My Way trial provide services
to any new people with disabilities and families who are not receiving support
and assistance prior to the trial commencing?

As I have said before, there are
always processes around new assessments for people and the additional funding
that comes in through growth funding et cetera. There are also people who will
be coming through the My Way trial from the mental health services—chronically
disabled people with a mental illness. There will be additional people being
considered as eligible for all the processes that are involved in the My Way
process, and there will be additional funding coming into it. That will be
funding that is inclusive of both the $135 million and any growth funding that
goes with it.
The PRESIDENT : Members, before I call the next member, I
reiterate the point that I made in this chamber a few weeks ago about paying
attention to what is going on. It is important that members actually listen to
what is being said as well as rely on the official record. The minister had
difficulty hearing some parts of that question, and at the time there were
about half a dozen separate conversations going on around the chamber.
