Family and domestic violence—Coercive control—Education
1165. Hon Michelle Boylan to the minister
representing the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence:
I refer to this
government's stance on the sufficient period of community education that needs
to take place before coercive control is legislated against.
(1) What is the definition of
"sufficient"?
(2) Has the government conducted any in-person
coercive control education sessions for the public?
(3) If so, how many education sessions have been
delivered since 2022?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence.
(1)–(3) "Sufficient"
means widespread public awareness, stakeholder training and readiness to
understand and apply the law. In-person coercive control education sessions
are not part of the government's efforts to raise community awareness of
coercive control.
