As at 14 September 2016:
(a) The daily rate for a locum psychiatrist in Kalgoorlie varies between approximately $2,000 – $2,200 (GST exclusive). This includes afterhours and on-call availability.
(b) Yes. Locum psychiatrists in the WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Goldfields have access to pool vehicles for limited afterhours use including travel to and from their accommodation if needed, and for work related purposes during office hours.
Accommodation is provided as on-site units or other hospital accommodation owned or leased by WACHS Goldfields.
WACHS Goldfields pays a locum psychiatrist a flat rate of $1,000 (GST inclusive) which covers travel to and from the region during their period of employment.
(c) For one Full Time Equivalent (FTE) locum psychiatrist, the total cost for WACHS Goldfields Mental Health Service in 2015-2016 was $504,041 inclusive of accommodation costs and based on an average roster length of three weeks with afterhours and on-call availability.
It is not possible to separate out the costs for a locum psychiatrist in relation to Kalgoorlie Hospital only, as the consultants work in both the Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Kalgoorlie Hospital and in the Community Mental Health Service.
(d) The daily rate for one residential consultant (one FTE) would be approximately $2,208 at an annual cost of approximately $519,957.
This is based on the assumption of the most senior increment.
