The minister will be aware that the Australian Hotels Association has been lobbying for an amendment to the legislation relating to special facility licences. Is it the Government’s intention to accede to its request and, if so, what amendments are proposed and when will such legislation be introduced? Hon N.D. GRIFFITHS
AnswerView source ↗
The Government is concerned that the number of liquor licences, which is at an unsustainable level, continues to increase. The primary area in which that is occurring is that of special facility licences. The Government wants to tighten the issue of those licences and is consulting actively with industry bodies, including the Australian Hotels Association, with a view to reaching an industry consensus. The Government is confident that that will occur soon, and it intends to move on the issue rapidly when it occurs.
