western ringtail possum surveys
I refer to the Department of Environment and Conservation’s work developing new guidelines for undertaking western ringtail possum surveys, which I understand will require multiple surveys and surveys of a higher intensity. (1) When will the new guidelines be finalised? (2) What, if any, community consultation will be undertaken in developing the new guidelines? (3) When is it expected the new guidelines will come into effect? Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY

On behalf of the Minister for Environment, I thank the member for the question. (1) The proposed new guidelines are still being developed, and it is anticipated they will be completed in 2010. The guidelines are intended to provide advice to development proponents on survey needs relative to the scale of the proposed development and the importance of the western ringtail possum habitat involved. (2) There will be stakeholder consultation before the guidelines are endorsed by the department. (3) See the answer to (1).
