(1)–(2) I
thank the member for Wanneroo for that question—of course, the member
for Butler is here too—about the record investment we are spending on
regional roads and metropolitan roads, particularly in the northern suburbs.
Last week, we were out there announcing the latest road project in the northern
suburbs—that is, the further freeway extension. So much has already
been undertaken. There is the Marmion Avenue duplication, member for Butler,
and the Wanneroo Road duplication, member for Wanneroo, and, of course, those
important interchanges at Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive, which the
opposition opposes, and at Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road are underway.
We have seen record investment in
road building across the state. This latest project—the further
extension—will create 1 200 jobs and will include not only the
completion of the Mitchell Freeway interchange
at Hester Avenue and a new freeway interchange at Lukin Drive, but also a rail
tunnel for the existing rail line at Butler station, construction of the
connection of Romeo Road between Marmion Avenue and Wanneroo Road, duplication
of 1.8 kilometres of Wanneroo Road from Romeo Road to Trian Road, a new shared
path and other noise mitigation.
The hills of the northern suburbs are
alive with the sound of road building equipment! Roads are being built
everywhere. Member for Butler, the Yanchep rail line is on its way, too. There
will be some further announcements soon. We are making sure that we deliver
infrastructure to where people are living and to where people are moving. We
want to make sure that when people move into the suburbs, they have world-class
infrastructure. That is what the Labor government is about. We will continue to
invest record amounts throughout the northern suburbs to make sure that we have
the roads and the rail lines delivering to families living in our northern
suburbs.
