I refer to question on notice No. 2616 September 22 2005, and the answers provided -
(1) Can the Minister state what was the specific nature of the discussions between Mrs Mills and the Acting Chief Executive Officer on the July 20 2005, and how did those discussions in any way relate to the issues raised by Mr Laurie Mills in his letter?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Given the importance and seriousness of these matters will the Chief Executive officer make the time to meet with Mr L Mills in Kalgoorlie, to investigate further information Mr Mills has which he believes supports why the works approval should be revoked or suspended?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

(1) The Department of Environment (DoE) Acting Director General's meeting with Mrs Dianne Mills and Mr Steve Kean discussed topics ranging from DoE role in Kalgoorlie, recent media articles, license conditions for dust and odour, allegations of breaches of Fimiston licence relating to saline water impacting on vegetation, and KCGMs noise monitoring reports in the media. The response to Question on Notice 2616 highlighted that opportunity was provided for issues to be raised with the Acting Director General when he was last in Kalgoorlie and that there were no immediate plans to return to Kalgoorlie. It was also highlighted that those discussions did include KCGMs operations, and as a result of those discussions actions have been undertaken by the DoE. In particular the Acting Director General organised: ¨ The Acting Regional Manager - Swan Goldfields Agricultural Region and a specialist from the Native Vegetation Protection group to meet with complainants on 29 August 2005 to investigate the claims of impacts on vegetation. Unfortunately key complainants had to cancel this meeting. The offer to re-schedule remains open. ¨ The Program Manager - Goldfields to investigate the reporting of noise levels in newspapers. The Program Manager-Goldfields liased with KCGM Community Reference Group at the August and September 2005 meetings where changes to the advert were discussed and endorsed by that community group. In addition, Question on Notice 2616 also highlights that other senior officers from the DoE have attempted to meet with Mr Mills as requested. (2) Not applicable. (3) As per Question on Notice 2616 (6). It is considered the matters raised by Mr Mills in his letter to the DoE have been appropriately addressed by the DoE. The same matters are being raised in an appeal on the works approval and are being considered further by the Office of the Appeals Convenor in Appeal No196-199 of 2004. (4) Not applicable.
