The response provides data from January 2007 and 2008, with some caveats regarding data availability and methodology.

Notes:
1. The mean (as opposed to the
median
waiting time used for measuring waiting times on the inpatient waiting lists) is used here because many patients are seen at the outpatient clinics in a short space of time after their referral is received by the hospital; the mean better accounts for the longer times that some patients wait.
2. The waiting time to be assessed has been calculated from the date of the hospital's receipt of the referral to the first appointment date, with the first appointment date occurring anywhere within the period
1 July 2007 to 13 March 2008
(to ensure a reasonable volume of cases from which to calculate the median waiting time).
Since the outpatient database system continually updates the data and no 'snapshot' view of this specific data was taken at or around 15 January, 13 March is the closest available data
.
3. Country hospitals and Joondalup and Peel Health Campuses do not provide data on outpatient referrals to DOH databases.
4. Outpatient data is not received by DOH databases at procedure level. Specialty of clinic is the closest available clinical category for the procedures specified in this question. The specialties in the table will include surgical procedures other than those specified in the question, as well as non-surgical procedures.
5. The grommets procedure is most commonly performed on children and so the ENT outpatient assessment waiting times have been restricted to PMH as the best estimation of waiting times for that procedure.
