Western Power has provided the Minister for Energy with the following response.
Western Power has no current plans for the undergrounding of powerlines in Roleystone or Bedfordale. Any undergrounding work that is currently scheduled or taking place is part of customer funded work, as Western Power requires all new subdivisions to have an underground connection to the grid.
The State Government is committed to having 50% of households connected to underground power by 2010. To assist in achieving this goal, the Underground Power Program (UPP) was launched in 1998 after successful pilot programs were carried out in Albany, Applecross, Cottesloe/Claremont and Wembley.
Councils are invited to submit proposals for areas they wish to be included in the program. The UPP Steering Committee selects the successful nominees based on a set of social, economic and technical criteria.
Neither Roleystone or Bedfordale have been chosen for the UPP to date, but the City of Armadale is encouraged to submit nominations.
