MEMBER FOR HILLARYS — ELECTORATE MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM
646. Mr R.F. JOHNSON to the Premier:
My question is directed to the
Premier as Leader of the Liberal Party.
(1) Did the
Premier or any of his staff ask or direct the state director of the Liberal
Party to block my access to the electoral management system that contains a huge
amount of personal information relating to my constituents.
(2) Did the
Premier or any of his staff ask the state director of the Liberal Party to
alter details of my electorate office—namely, stating that the office
was closed permanently and deleting my phone number and substituting the
telephone number of the Liberal Party headquarters?
(3) Does the
Premier condone the smear campaign against me initiated by his candidate for
the seat of Hillarys?
Mr
F.M. Logan : Fess up.

AnswerView source ↗

I will.
(1)–(3) I
saw a report on ABC television news on Sunday night in which the member for
Hillarys claimed that the Liberal Party had interfered with his website—I
think he used the term ''hacked'' into his website. I naturally,
yesterday, made some inquiries of the Liberal Party. First, can I answer his
question: no-one from my office had any involvement whatsoever. However,
Liberal members of Parliament have their websites basically under a management
arrangement with the Liberal Party.
Mr
R.F. Johnson : No, we don't.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Hang on; yes, we do.
Mr
R.F. Johnson : No, we don't.
The
SPEAKER : Thank you. Let the Premier answer.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : I am trying to explain. The Liberal Party has a management
structure, management system, over the websites of Liberal members of
Parliament. I am sure the Labor Party has something similar. When the member
for Hillarys resigned from the Liberal Party, the Liberal Party of its own
volition simply removed the connection between his website and the Liberal
management system. That happened and he was basically disconnected.
Mr
R.F. Johnson : I haven't got a website.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : I do not know what you are carrying on about.
Mr
R.F. Johnson : I haven't got a website.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : If you did not have one, how could we hack into it?
Mr
R.F. Johnson interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Hillarys, you asked a question. The Premier will answer
it. It is not for you now to say what is and what is not.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : Whether the member for Hillarys has a website, I do not know.
Any connection between his office and the Liberal management system for
websites was discontinued. That was a decision by the Liberal Party quite
correctly because he is no longer a Liberal member of Parliament. He was simply
discontinued from the Liberal management system for websites. That is all that
happened. It was totally appropriate and totally the correct action.
