I have a supplementary question, and I apologise for embarrassing the minister further. Will the minister admit that some of the sports he has said will use the facility may simply not be able to afford the leasing fees and that the new stadium will simply become the de facto home of Perth Glory? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

I occasionally hear the member for Dawesville say things like, “You must be in business to understand business” and “If you’re not driving a BMW, you’re no good” and all this sort of stuff. The Town of Vincent will want to maximise the use of that stadium. Soccer will use it for only a certain time during the soccer season. Around the world now, local, State and federal Governments are trying to maximise their community sporting facilities by multi use. I would have thought it would be most unwise for the Town of Vincent to strike arrangements that, for no reason whatsoever, would shut out other potential users. Clearly, it might want to have a primary user, and Perth Glory, which plays 13 home games a year, I think, and pulls between 10 000 and 18 000 people to its games, is obviously the one that it might want as its primary tenant. Mr A.D. Marshall: They are last year’s figures. Mr A.J. CARPENTER: I see. Now the member is talking down Perth Glory. It is the shining light of the National Soccer League and the member is trying to knock it. He is saying it cannot do it. That is unbelievable. If a National Soccer League team wants to use a rectangular sports stadium for games on 13 or 14 dates and for training, and it is prepared to pay money to do that, of course the owner will let that team use it. However, the owner would be unwise to stop other potential users from accessing the facility because that is an additional source of revenue.
