Are any corrective services officers required to undertake fire-fighting training, and if so: (a) will the Minister provide a breakdown of the percentage of staff at each prison and detention centres that have been trained to fight fires as at 1 July 2017; (b) what organisation provides the training and what is the annual cost of the training; and (c) if no to (a) and (b), why not?

The Department of Justice advises:
(a) – (b)      All Corrective Services Officers undergo Fire Awareness Training during their training program. This training includes theory and practical training in the use of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and hose reels. Onsite                                refresher  training is provided through the local Satellite Trainer.
(c)              Department of Fire and Emergency Services provide the firefighting response capability in prisons and detention centres.
