Given that the Government has now indicated the level of native forest timber that can be cut post-2004, and the indication that initial offers post-2004 will be made pro rata - (1) Has the minister made any assessment of the social impact that this will have both on those directly involved in the timber industry and families, children and communities in the south west? (2) If the minister has made that assessment, will he undertake to table it? (3) If the minister has not made that assessment, why not? Good government would suggest that he should do so.  The Government undertook to do so in its election promises. Hon KIM CHANCE

(1)-(3) That is an interesting question.  However, it possibly should be asked of another minister.  This question deals with a community service issue. Hon Peter Foss:  You’ve got to make a decision.  I hope you look at the impacts of your decision. Hon KIM CHANCE:  The member asked about a community impact.  The cabinet standing committee on the implementation of old-growth forest policy has considered issues of this kind.  It has had input from Family and Children’s Services and from the timber industry assistance offices that have been opened in Bunbury, Manjimup and Perth.  A representative from Family and Children’s Services is located at each office.  I am not aware of any formal report in a form that I could table in Parliament.  The member may choose to ask another minister if a formal report has been completed on that matter.  I cannot table a formal report from Family and Children’s Services because I am not the appropriate minister. Hon Peter Foss interjected. The PRESIDENT:  Order!  There are no supplementary questions.
