refer to the procurement of a new maritime training vessel for South
Metropolitan TAFE and the interim use of charter vessels, and I ask:(a) who is responsible for selecting the new training vessel, and what criteria are being used in that decision-making process;(b) will the Minister table the assessment criteria and governance arrangements guiding this procurement;(c) can the Minister confirm reports that its recently chartered vessel suffered an electrical failure, including a fire, on its first day of use;(d) what due diligence, safety checks and risk assessments are being undertaken before charter vessels are engaged to support maritime training; and(e) how will the Government ensure continuity of training while also safeguarding students and staff from risks associated with temporary vessels?

The procurement process for South Metropolitan TAFE’s new maritime vessel is being conducted in accordance with the Western Australian Procurement Rules, Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Regulations and Standards, and Vocational Education and Training quality requirements.
(c) – (e)
South Metropolitan TAFE operates in line with AMSA Regulations and Standards and the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 to ensure the safety and compliance of vessels used for training purposes.
No incident relating to a charted vessel occurred on the first day of use by South Metropolitan TAFE.
