(1) No. (2) Not applicable. (3) Total expenditure to date is approximately $968,000.00 on route location, environmental, flora and fauna, native title and engineering studies. The project has been managed by the Gas Pipeline Working Group for the Gas Pipeline Sale Steering Committee, with funding through the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources. (4) A total of $4 million has been approved by Cabinet for establishment of the corridor. (5) No. (6) Not applicable. (7) The corridor is being developed to facilitate competition for the provision of gas to the North East Goldfields, as well as enhancing the State's ability to expand the existing infrastructure network along the east-west route. The Northern Goldfields and Mid West Regional Mineral Studies carried out joint studies involving the State and Commonwealth Governments and Industry. Information from these reports was then used to develop the Goldfields and Mid West Regions Strategic Infrastructure Needs Assessment Study, recommendations of which were endorsed by the Infrastructure Coordinating Committee in August 2000. One of the recommendations was the development of a corridor between Geraldton and the North Eastern Goldfields region.
