ENERGY — BATTERY
INSTALLATION — COLLIE
844. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Energy:
I
refer to public comments by Synergy's senior renewable engineer who
indicated in the Collie River Valley Bulletin of 1 June 2023 that
up to 500 workers might be required for construction of Collie's
proposed big battery, but that once the project is operational ''there
will be a significant workforce reduction'' and was quoted as saying ''this
is a highly autonomous facility''.
(1) How many
permanent full-time jobs will be delivered after the Collie big battery is
finished construction?
(2) How many of those jobs will be
in Collie?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Energy and I answer on behalf of the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Energy.
(1)–(2) The
Collie big battery is the first of its kind and size for the Collie region.
Operational role requirements will be determined closer to the battery becoming
operational.
