LIVE EXPORT — FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POLICY —
KEEP THE SHEEP CAMPAIGN
741. Hon BEN DAWKINS to the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
I note the very effective and brave
protests at Muresk on Friday. Since I last asked a question on this topic, what
federal lobbying has the minister done to have the ban on the live sheep trade
overturned, rather than worrying about compensation, because it should just be
overturned?

As I have said publicly on many,
many, many occasions, the Cook government does not support the ban on live
export. We believe the animal welfare measures in place are sufficient. Both
the Premier and I have stated we will always do what is best and stand up for
regional WA. I note that there is some legislation before the commonwealth
House of Representatives and I will be travelling to Canberra in coming weeks
to meet with Minister Murray Watt.
