SAFETY BAY
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL — TRUANCY
1129. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
My question without notice of which some notice was given was
lodged back in August. I refer to some community concerns of truant students
from Safety Bay Senior High School being involved in criminal behaviour in the
area during school hours.
(1) Is the minister aware of these concerns?
(2) Is a badged attendance officer currently at Safety Bay Senior
High School?
(3) If no to (2), are there plans to employ a badged
attendance officer at Safety Bay Senior High School?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
This information is relevant as of Thursday, 20 August.
(1) I am
advised that Safety Bay Senior High School has met with community members to
address their concerns, and is working closely with local police and other
agencies for support and attendance.
(2)–(3)
Yes; a badged attendance officer attached to the south metropolitan education
region is working in this capacity in the school. In addition, Safety Bay Senior
High School is making arrangements to have a member of staff designated as a
badged attendance officer. It is anticipated that the process will be completed
by mid-next week; that was some time ago now.
