(2) PTA continually reviews the performance of its rollingstock and will make recommendations to the Government as to the optimum time for replacing the current Australind. Well-maintained trains have a long service life with the recently retired Prospector fleet serving the State since 1971. (3) As there is some minor work still being done on the Prospector fleet, the final cost is yet to be determined. However it will be approximately $43 million at a cost of $6.1 million per car. (4) Similarly the final cost of the Avonlink is yet to be determined. However it will be approximately $12.6 million at a cost of $6.3 million per car. (5) The current cost of rollingstock per carriage depends on many aspects, including the size; features and state of the market at the time tenders are sought. (6) As was the case for the new Prospector, any new rollingstock purchased by PTA will meet access requirements for people with disabilities.
