Justices of the peace
482. Hon Nick Goiran to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Attorney
General:
I refer to the
submission of the Royal Association of Justices of Western Australia to the Standing
Committee on Public Administration, which states there is an "absence of a
comprehensive, formal oversight framework for JPs within the justice system".
(1) Does a formal oversight and reporting
framework currently exist within the department for commissioned justices of
the peace?
(2) If yes to (1), will the Attorney
General table the details of the framework and a list of the centralised data
it collects?
(3) If no to (1) or (2), why not?

I thank the Leader
of the Opposition for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The justice of the peace branch within
the Department of Justice supports the administration of justices of the peace,
including their appointments, resignations and training, and provides a
complaints management process. The Attorney General and the department will
consider any recommendations of the Standing Committee on Public Administration
made in respect to the matters raised by the Royal Association of Justices of Western
Australia in its submission.
