I refer to the ‘Review of Regional Tourism Organisations, the Review of the Western Australian Indigenous Operators Committee and the Review of Tourist Accommodation Development’, and I ask -
(1) Will the Minister be implementing the recommendations from each of the reports on these Reviews?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) If only some of the recommendations will be implemented, which ones will not be implemented and why?

In regard to the Review of Regional Tourism Organisations -
(1) - (3) I endorsed the Tourism Western Australia Board's resolution to support all recommendations except Recommendation 4 which relates to a performance-driven funding model. The Regional Tourism Organisations requested that the model of equal base funding be retained.
In regard to the Review of the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Committee (WAITOC) -
(1) - (3) I endorsed the Tourism Western Australia Board's resolution to support all recommendations, except Recommendations 4 and 5.
Recommendation 4 suggests the number of Board members be reduced from 12 to five, plus two non-voting experts with extensive tourism experience and networks, as well as access to a voluntary panel of experts. A five member Board was not supported by the WAITOC Board because of the need to represent the many language groups in Western Australia and large number of Indigenous tourism operators in the Pilbara and Kimberley. The use of non-voting experts is a strategy open to WAITOC at its discretion.
Recommendation 5 relates to a suggestion that WAITOC be incorporated as an Aboriginal Corporation. This was not supported by the WAITOC Board because it saw no benefit in changing its legal structure.
In regard to the Review of Tourist Accommodation Development -
(1) - (3) Tourism Western Australia is currently prioritising the recommendations of the
Review of Tourist Accommodation Development
and will work with the relevant agencies in implementing them. The implications of each recommendation on agency resources will need to be considered before committing to implementation.
