Lloyd Street Bridge
656. Hon Tjorn Sibma to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Transport:
I note the following
information regarding the Lloyd St Bridge from the Main Roads Western Australia
website:
Main Roads has been liaising with local
stakeholders, Traditional Owners and the City of Swan to explore the viability
of a new alignment for the Lloyd Street Bridge. The bridge would be relocated
further west, to a narrower crossing of the Helena River, loosely following the
footprint of the old Whiteman Road bridge that was demolished in 2002. The
outcomes of a feasibility study are currently being examined by government.
(1) Has the feasibility study been examined by
government?
(2) Has any decision been made as a result of this
examination?
(3) What is the future of the project?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1) Yes.
(2) The feasibility study indicated the
alternative alignment is technically achievable, but several significant
constraints, including impacts on heavily contaminated land, major services,
services conflicts and private land acquisition requirements, would make the
project unviable.
(3) Main Roads
continues to consult the traditional owners and the City of Swan to identify a
design solution on the original alignment that can be acceptable to all parties
and address the concerns outlined in the traditional owners' section 10
application submitted to the Commonwealth under the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act in 2022.
