I refer to the recent issues at the City of Perth and ask: (a) when did the Minister first become aware of the involvement of Worksafe with the City of Perth; (b) when was the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries first notified of the involvement of Worksafe with the City of Perth; and (c) what actions have been taken, or support offered by the Department to ensure the City of Perth is a safe workplace?

(a-b) I note that the City’s administration released a statement on 1 March 2018 that referred to a meeting between the City of Perth’s Chief Executive Officer and Worksafe on 14 July 2017; however, neither myself nor the Department has been made aware of any formal involvement from Worksafe in relation to the City of Perth. Questions related to the involvement of Worksafe should be addressed to the responsible Minister.
(c) The Local Government Act 1995 does not provide for the regulation of matters surrounding a safe workplace; however, the Department continues to encourage adherence to the Rules of Conduct regulations and to each local government’s Code of Conduct.
