parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to information provided
during the annual report estimates hearings on 3 November 2016 regarding the
full-time equivalents based at the Children's Court.

(1) Two officers
are based at the Children's Court—one senior child protection
officer, Children's Court, and one senior court officer.
(2) The senior
child protection officer, Children's Court, provides direct support on
a daily basis to departmental staff and young people who are going through the
criminal court, and to problem solve as required. The position is also required
to assist with judicial requests as they arise. The senior court officer
attends Banksia Hill Detention Centre, undertakes data collection–analysis,
program development, interagency relations—for example, problem solving—policy,
legislation and process reviews, and various other managerial and court support
requirements as necessary.

court officer attends Banksia Hill Detention Centre two days a week—Wednesdays
and Thursdays. The officer provides support to the Telethon Kids Institute
research into children who are incarcerated who may have foetal alcohol
syndrome disorder. The officer is available to the youth justice case planning
unit and departmental case managers in relation to inquiries about children in
care in Banksia Hill. The officer also works towards encouraging strong
interagency communication.
