Mr. Cook questions Premier Barnett about cuts to community child health services in Gosnells and a shortage of child health nurses. Premier Barnett deflects part of the question to the Health Minister and outlines the government's plan for state-funded, school-based services.

COMMUNITY CHILD HEALTH SERVICES — CITY OF GOSNELLS
I ask a supplementary question. If the government is so committed to improving child health services, why is the Premier cutting back and walking away from an MOU with the City of Gosnells; and why are we, in this state, still short of over 100 child health nurses, who deliver important health services to the community? Mr C.J. BARNETT

I think the question on child health nurses would be better directed to the Minister for Health. Mr R.H. Cook : You said it was going to be a central plank of the social dividend! The SPEAKER : Members! Mr C.J. BARNETT : I do not know the details of the agreement with the local government, but these will be state-funded, state-delivered services, with the support of community organisations where appropriate. They will be delivered primarily under the auspices of the Department of Education, and on school sites. When the final details are in place, which is not very far away, we will announce the full details of the program.
