For each Government department or agency under the Minister’s control, including the ministerial office, I ask whether media monitoring services are provided; and
(a) if yes, which firm or firms currently provide a media monitoring service;
(b) if yes, what is the cost of the contract/s;
(c) if yes, since 23 September 2008 how much has been paid for media monitoring services;
(d) if yes, what is the duration of the contract(s); and
(e) if yes, when did the contract(s) commence?

Ministerial Office
As of 1 January 2010 the Government Media Office ceased to operate in a move to streamline decision making and coordination across portfolios. As part of these changes responsibility for daily Media Monitoring Services for Ministers and some government agencies has been transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
ChemCentre
(a) - (e) The only media monitoring service ChemCentre receives is the news digest (television and radio) from the Department of Premier and Cabinet's Media Monitoring Unit, which is currently a three month trial. There is no cost to Government agencies receiving this trial service.

SBDC
(a) SBDC receives media monitoring services from Media Monitors Pty Ltd. In addition, SBDC is also currently receiving media monitoring from Media Monitoring Unit (MMU) of the Government Media Office (GMO), on a trial basis.
(b) The cost of the contract with Media Monitors is $442.37 per month (GST incl.) plus a charge per press clip and per broadcast summary for both metropolitan and regional broadcast. Average cost per month for clippings and broadcast summaries is $476.19 (GST incl.)
(c) $19 728.62. No payments have been made to the MMU or the GMO.
(d) The contract remains in force until revoked in writing by the SBDC to Media Monitors.
(e) 4 March, 2009.

(a) Yes, Media Monitors Pty Ltd provides media monitoring service to the Department of Commerce.
(b) The contract has been valued at $400,000 OR estimated at $100,000 per annum.
(c) Between 1 May 2009 and 21 May 2010 the amount paid is $76363.
(d) The contract is for a total period of four (4) years. It commenced with a two (2) year contract period and one extension option of a further two (2) years was awarded 17 September 2008.
(e) The contract commenced on 18 September 2006 and will end 17 September 2010.

(a) Capital Monitor
(b) $4,698.00 annually
(c) For the period 1 May 2009 to 21 May 2010 - $4,968.00
