ROE HIGHWAY STAGE 8 — CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT
— LEGAL ADVICE
749. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Minister for
Transport:
I have a supplementary question.
Considering that the minister was
the environment minister when the James Price Point decision was struck down by
legal action, is it not inherently risky —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : That is enough!
Point of Order
Mr C.J. BARNETT : This
supplementary question does not relate to the initial question. It should be a separate
question.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Just phrase your
question.

Several members interjected.
The

Mr
M. McGOWAN : Considering that the Minister for Transport was the minister —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Sorry. Listen, now I just want to tell everybody: I have not even heard what
the Leader of the Opposition wants to say. Give him a chance.
Mr
M. McGOWAN : Considering that the Minister for Transport was the environment
minister when the James Price Point decision was struck down by the Supreme
Court, is it not inherently risky to be signing contracts for hundreds of

The
SPEAKER : A very quick answer.

I have a very quick answer. There is
no action before the High Court. There is no reason we should not be going
ahead with Roe 8. In fact, we have a mandate to go —
Several members interjected.
Mr
W.R. MARMION : It was an election commitment.
Several members interjected.
Mr
W.R. MARMION : The member for Cannington says it was not an election
commitment.
Mr
W.J. Johnston : No, it wasn't.
Mr
W.R. MARMION : On the Labor Party's Broken Promises website, it
states —
Roe
8 will not be built
What they promised
The Liberals will build the Roe 8
Extension to alleviate traffic congestion.
They are saying it is a broken promise.
We are now delivering on it.
Several members interjected.
Mr
W.R. MARMION : You mugs!
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Bateman.
Mr
M. McGowan : Do you find that funny? Why were you laughing so much?
The
SPEAKER : I never heard it. Member for Bateman.
Mr
M. McGowan : Disgraceful.
The
SPEAKER : I never heard it. I was calling the member for Bateman. I am not
going to be shouted at.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : I call the member for Bateman. I did not hear any comment. If there
was an untoward comment, it should be withdrawn. I never heard it.
