I thank the member
for the question.
(1)–(2) As the Premier has outlined, he
convened a fuel security round table yesterday with representatives from fuel
suppliers, distributors, the agricultural sector, the freight and logistics
industry, the resources sector, the business community and senior public
servants. We heard from industry that the supply of fuel into Western Australia
remains uninterrupted. Normal volumes are arriving into Kwinana and other ports
as planned and expected. We also discussed some of the challenges that some
particular regional areas are experiencing with fuel availability, and the
government recognises that this is causing some anxiety and issues across some
regional communities, particularly for our agricultural sector, who are at a
very critical time in their cycle. In response to these concerns from a very
constructive and important meeting held with some of those stakeholders, the
government has convened an industry operational group. The IOG will comprise
industry representatives drawn from the fuel security round table, along with
the Coordinator of Energy and key representatives from government. I will chair
today's meeting. I will chair the meetings going forward. We will have our
first meeting this afternoon. We will continue to meet two to three times per
week until balance is restored across the fuel supply and distribution system.
The industry operation group
will focus on specific domestic fuel supply and distribution matters, including
getting fuel supplies into those regional areas experiencing those challenges.
We will essentially case manage those acute areas where we have seen an
internal restocking issue and work with the broader suppliers around releasing
more fuel onto the spot market to support some of those end-of-supply chain and
independent fuel suppliers and retailers. This will also involve monitoring and
coordinating activities of the fuel suppliers, the
fuel distributors and the retailers. Priority will be given to essential
industries such as transport, agriculture and resources as well as health,
education and community services. The outcomes of the industrial operational group
will feed into the federal response, which will ensure that Western Australians'
interests remain protected at a national level. Western Australia has
experienced supply chain disruptions before, most recently during the COVID
pandemic. The government has a proven track record on managing these difficult
circumstances on behalf of Western Australians and always putting Western
Australia first. We will use this hard-won experience to lead the state through
the current situation.
