ABORIGINAL
COMMUNITIES — CLOSURE
1284. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
I refer to remote Aboriginal communities located in Western
Australia. Will the minister provide the name, regional location and estimated
population for each Aboriginal community the government recognises as remote?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
On reflection, this answer may not be what the member wants,
but I will give him what I have, and if he requires the individual communities,
which I think is what the question asks for, I will provide that information; I
am not sure how long it will take, but I will provide it. In the meantime, I
will give him this answer.
There are 274 remote communities across Western Australia,
with a total population of 12 113, including 110 in the West Kimberley; 53 in
the East Kimberley; l7 in the Pilbara; 18 in the goldfields; and seven in the
midwest. Of these, 205 communities are permanent and 69 are seasonal. I will
provide the individual statistics, hopefully by next Tuesday.
