The Minister for the Environment has provided the following response - (1) The Contaminated Sites Act 2003 will come into operation on a date set by proclamation. This date is expected to be approximately four months after the Contaminated Sites Regulations have been gazetted. (2) The regulations have been finalised and are in the process of being submitted to the Governor in Executive Council for the regulations to be made, after which they will be gazetted. (3) Two recommendations have yet to be fully implemented. Recommendations 7 and 17 are concerned with hazardous waste management and are being dealt with through the core consultative committee -3C - process. The 3C will provide advice to government in July 2006 on the location of waste precincts. It has already provided advice on site selection, technology criteria and hazardous waste definition.
