864. Hon ADELE FARINA to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Tourism:
(1) When does the current contract
for Margaret River Pro terminate?
(2) Is the
minister aware that the World Surf League is considering cutting the Margaret
River Pro from its world tour after next year's event?
(3) What action
is the government taking to ensure we retain the Margaret River Pro, which is a
tourism drawcard for Margaret River and promotes it to the world?

some notice of the question.
(1) The last year of the current
Tourism Western Australia contract is 2017.
(2) Tourism WA is
aware there is significant competition for securing the world championship tour
status.
(3) Tourism WA
and Surfing Western Australia commenced discussions with the World Surf League
in early 2016 about the future status of the event. These discussions are
ongoing.
