I refer to the ‘Report on Parliamentary Visit to the United States of America’ tabled in Parliament by Mark McGowan MLA. The report indicates that the US Navy requires specific rules of engagement that will need to be put in place around the Australian Marine Complex (AMC), and I ask -
(1) Has the Government had further discussions with the US Navy about the terms of these rules of engagement?
(2) If yes to (1), what was the outcome of these discussions?
(3) Can the Premier describe his understanding of what such rules of engagement may imply?
(4) Has the Premier considered what the impact of such rules might be on the communities and industries in and around Cockburn Sound?

(2) Not applicable. (3) The rules of engagement as I understand from the original report relate to the level of security which would be required around the wharf for the docking of any proposed USN vessel. (4) Given that USN vessels already dock in Fremantle it would have little impact on the community as the requirements would not be dissimilar to those already in place. It would also benefit local industry if it could gain some of the flow on work from the vessel docking at the AMC.
