(1) How many of the 73 placements of Indigenous people occurred in the Kimberley region? (2) How many Indigenous people were placed in public sector employment programs in the Kimberley in 2007-08? (3) What planning is being undertaken by the public sector management division to improve levels of Indigenous employment in the public sector in the Kimberley region for 2008-09? Hon NORMAN MOORE

(1)-(3) The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission employment program, managed by the former public sector management division, is aimed at recruiting eligible and suitable Indigenous job seekers for fixed-term base grade and traineeship employment opportunities in the Western Australian public sector within the metropolitan area. As such, no placements of Indigenous people through that program have occurred in the Kimberley region. With the establishment of the new Public Sector Commission on 28 November 2008, a review of the processes and services associated with the program is proposed, including identifying how the commission may assist agencies to improve Indigenous employment opportunities in the Kimberley and other regional areas.
