On behalf of the Minister for
Police, I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1)–(2) The
minister is not aware of the specific policing-type services to which the
member refers. However, many local governments establish security services,
including CCTV networks or security alarm monitoring on local government
properties, which would not be provided by WA Police. Also, WA Police has a
close and constructive working relationship with local governments throughout
the state. Local governments play a valuable role in intelligence gathering,
crime prevention initiatives and community education. These services complement
WA Police services and do not act as a substitute. The new metropolitan
policing operating model actually enhances these working relationships to
deliver mutually beneficial community outcomes.
