WELFARE REVIEW
266. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the
Minister for Agriculture and Food:
(1) Would the
minister please advise the progress of the review that he announced last year
into the investment in and administration of animal welfare, including —
(a) who is
involved;
(b) how often
have they met;
(c) have they
consulted the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee; and
(d) when will
they report?
(2) Who are the members
of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee?
(3) Who is the
chair of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee?
(4) How often has
the committee met since the minister became Minister for Agriculture and Food?
(5) How often has
the committee advised the minister?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) The
Department of Agriculture and Food WA has substantially completed the planning
required to establish the review. An announcement regarding the membership of
the review panel will be made in the near future.
(2) Mr Eric
Ball, community member; Ms Lynne Bradshaw, RSPCA nominee; Dr Mark Lawrie,
Australian Veterinary Association representative and committee member; Mr Tony
Gooch, industry member; Mr Rob Gillam, industry member; Dr Matthew Kemp,
research member; and Dr Teresa Collins, ministerial decision.
(3) Mr Eric
Ball.
(4) Twice—3
September 2013 and 4 December 2013.
(5) The
committee's function is to provide advice to the minister on matters
related to the welfare of animals, whether referred to the committee by the
minister or of its own motion. The committee has not been asked to formally
advise the minister on any issues.
