SPEECH THERAPISTS — APPOINTMENTS — SOUTH
WEST REGION
993. Hon ADELE FARINA to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the minister's answer to question on
notice 3205 that all referrals for speech pathology are triaged and
high-priority referrals are seen within one to two days.
(1) What does the minister mean by ''seen''?
What does this entail?
(2) How was the
one to two days wait time calculated and what was the time period on which the
calculation was based?
(3) What is the
longest and the shortest wait time between being seen and receiving speech
pathology therapy services?
(4) Is triage
performed on a location-by-location basis or across the whole of the south west
region for those willing to travel to access services sooner?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) A
high-priority referral will be seen in person by a speech pathologist for a
clinic appointment following a phone screening process performed by a speech
pathologist.
(2) The one to
two days wait time reported in question on notice 3205 was based on a review of
the previous three months of service delivery between April and June 2015. It
was calculated by averaging the waiting times for all patients in that period.
(3) The
longest wait time is four months for non-urgent referrals. The shortest wait
time is one to two days for clients who are assessed as urgent.
(4) Triage is
performed at each of the child development service intake points across the
south west—Bunbury, Busselton, Manjimup and Collie. The wait times are
similar at all sites, but there is potential for clients to choose to receive
services at a different location if they prefer.
