I refer to question without notice No. 3105 of August 26, which stated that a study in 1996 suggested that Greys Beach was going through a period of accretion following on from a period of erosion up to 1975. I advised the Minister that constituents have reported to me that they have recently measured two points at Greys Beach Geraldton from the start of shore vegetation to the fence used to delimit the Geraldton Southern Transport Corridor (GSTC) and obtained 58 metres and 62 metres of remaining dune vegetation, and I ask -
(1) Is the Minister relying on the 1996 information or have any more recent setback measurements been taken in the region of Greys Beach?
(2) If so, can the Minister table the data?
(3) Does the Minister agree that the GSTC will cut across sand dunes in that area?
(4) If so, what does that mean in terms of the safety and maintenance of a rail line and road corridor considering the experience of the rail line at South Beach?
(5) Can the Minister guarantee, that in the future we will not see a further proliferation of groynes to save a transport corridor which has been located too close to a moving coastline?

2) The results of this survey show that there has been little change to the beachside vegetation line since 1996. However, in view of the complexities of this issue, the Minister would be happy for Main Roads to provide a briefing to the Hon Member to discuss any concerns her constituents may have. 3) Yes, the GSTC is situated on the rear of the sand dune area near Grey's Beach. 4) Road and rail safety and maintenance have been fully considered in developing the project concept and detailed design. 5) The transport corridor was located in accordance with advise from the Department of Transport (Maritime Division). It is not expected that groynes will be required to protect the coastline in this area.
