HAND-HELD MOBILE TELEPHONES, BAN
I refer the Premier to the ban on using hand-held mobile phones while driving as of 1 July 2001, and his duty of care as an employer to staff who drive a motor vehicle for work purposes during work hours. (1) Have instructions been issued to staff about the new regulations? (2) If so, could he please table a copy? (3) If not, when does he propose doing so? (4) Does he propose issuing all staff who have a government-issued mobile phone and may drive a motor vehicle for work purposes and who currently do not have a hands-free facility, with a combined earpiece-microphone-type device, or will he approve of the installation in all government vehicles of a cradle hands-free device? (5) How many will need to be issued/installed, and what will be the estimated cost? Dr GALLOP
